The Cayuga Milk Ingredients Processing Plant is used for processing milk for protein concentrate and skim milk powder. The project involved an aggressive schedule and multiple complexities for the design team to solve.

CE Solutions first produced a “Part 1” preliminary structural design set for the contractors’ use in bidding a guaranteed maximum price. Once CE Solutions was given notice to proceed, the team had four weeks to put out foundation packages and another two weeks to put out the first steel package.

Complexities of the project included designing structural systems to support a hundred-foot-tall, five-story drying tower, as well as supporting the various pieces of equipment—weighing as much as 300,000 pounds—from the elevated floors. Due to the fast nature of the project, CE Solutions had to provide a flexible structural design to accommodate unknown loads such as process piping, equipment, and other components.
